Now that's a title that breaks every grammatical rule in the book. Yet, allow me. I love relating stories of my past so that hopefully you won't have to repeat my mistakes. One such event occured on a dark and dreary night. As I was commiserating about how to allot not enough money to too many creditors my cheerful wife gave me the advice every man longs to hear; "you've got to have faith." Now ladies, (sidenote) I know you all want to help your man...that hunka hunka burnin love....but if he's participating in a pity party, sound advice is useless.
I knew all the right answers, escpecially the churchy ones. However when reality shows it's ugly face, when the rubber meets the road and when you are in crisis...that is NOT the time for "faith". FALSE That is precicely the time for faith. Our world and friend list is full of people that will come when they can and give what they have. That's easy. Personally, I'm amazed and taken aback when I see real faith exercised in real difficult times. Do I believe God will do what He said He would do? If I pray, do I really expect to hear from Him? Really??? I have seen faith lived out in a friend dying with cancer, I have seen faith lived out in people smiling through sickness, I have experienced faith when someone anonomously gave me a financial gift.
This kind of faith causes our world to take notice. Why would you keep working for a jerk of a boss or give money you could spend on your home to someone that will probably waste it? When we are so in love and in tune with God that the normal constraints and common sense of this world slide off of us, it is radical. It is life changing. My dad always told me to use my head, but I have found sometimes it's better to use your heart. The God who created you wants to set you free from the "sin that so easily entangles us". When you follow and walk with Him, don't expect your life to be ordinary. It will be anything but.
We are told that we are to be a city on a hill, a light shining in the darkness. We are to be different. The way that is accomplished is to let your faith be put on display for all to see. You might even surprise yourself. Living large,
